Marquise

The marquise shaped diamond is the second most popular diamond shape. Approximately 18% of the diamonds sold are marquise shaped. We look for marquise diamonds that are between 1.75 to l.00 and 2.25 to l length to width ratio. The way to find this number is divide the length of the stone in millimeters by the width.

The most preferred length to width ratio is right in the middle around 2.00 to 1.00. Also we like to stay with depth percentages at 65% and under. The table percentage that we strive for is between 53%-65%. We avoid stones with a strong bow tie effect, which is a sign that the stone is cut too shallow. This shape is elegant and a lot of brides to be like it if they are looking for a more unusual ring.

Pear

The pear-shaped diamond is an unusual shape in that it is somewhat asymmetrical. It is rounded on one end and pointed on the other. This shape usually contains 56- 58 facets. For this particular diamond, we like to stay in the 1.75 to 1.00 length to width ratio to 1.50 to l.00.

This number is found by dividing the width by the length in millimeters. We look for the stones that are 65% and under to about 58% depth. The table percentages are between 53%-65%. This stone is also beautiful and brilliant and when properly cut shows very little bow-tie effect. You can select this diamond for the bride that likes unusual shapes.

Emerald

Emerald cut diamonds are a very classic cutting style . They are the most difficult shape for a cutter to cut. It generally takes a diamond cutter approximately 12-14 hours to cut an emerald shaped diamond. The emerald cut diamond is rectangular in shape, step cut with diagonally cut corners. The preferred length to width ratio on an emerald cut diamond ranges from 1.50 to 1.00 up to 1.75 to 1.00.

On the emerald shaped diamond we like to stay in the SI1 and above clarity grades as there is not a lot of facets to hide the identifying characteristics. Generally the bride that chooses the emerald cut diamonds prefers a more simplistic looking ring and doesn’t care for a “ flashy” look.
