Round Brilliant Cut

The round brilliant cut diamond is the most popular diamond shape. 70% of all the diamonds sold are round brilliant cut. There are 57-58 facets on a round brilliant diamond. There is nothing more beautiful than a round brilliant cut diamond that is properly cut and faceted. Actually, the cutting grade of a diamond is the most important of the 4 C’s. You could have a D color and Flawless clarity grade, but if it isn’t well cut, you won’t have the sparkle or beauty.

At Diamond Brokers, we select ideal cut diamonds and very well cut stones for our inventory. An ideal cut diamond ranges in table percentage from 53%-57% , a well-cut diamond ranges from 53-63% and the crown angle is 34 degrees to 35 degrees.

We like to keep the girdle variances between thin to thick. We don't carry very thins or very thicks or extremely thins to extremely thicks. The reason for no very thins or extremely thins is the likehood of chipping the stone is greatly increased with stones of these kinds. Also the reason for no very thicks or extremely thicks is that there is too much weight saved in stones of these kinds. In other words, the cutter has left additional weight on the stone that you can’t see. It is also more difficult to set a stone with a very thick or extremely thick girdle.

On the pavillion depth, we stay at 42-43.5%. The culet is between medium to none, generally none to very small. The total depth of the stone is best between 59%-62%, however, these percentages don’t always tell you a stone is well cut, as the total depth represents the stone from the top of the table to the culet.

Sometimes a stone will have a good total depth percentage on paper, but it could have a shallow crown and deep pavillion, or visa versa. That is why it is important to also know the crown angle and height percentage as well as the pavillion depth. The GIA laboratory report doesn’t give the crown angle and pavillion depth, but at Diamond Brokers, this additional information is provided because we measure this on every stone sold!

As far as Fluorescence goes, we usually only sell stones with none to medium, that way the overall look of the stone is not affected.
